Potomac Riverkeeper & Shenandoah Riverkeeper Staff

We are a small staff of 9 full time employees. We boast two riverkeepers: Ed Merrifield is the Potomac Riverkeeper and Jeff Kelble the Shenandoah Riverkeeper. Our Riverkeepers form the front line in the fight for clean water. When a community's water supply is threatened, Riverkeepers empower residents to take action. When disturbing trends like intersex fish emerge, Riverkeepers work with scientists to figure out the cause of the of those trends. When clean water laws are not being enforced by local enforcement agencies, Riverkeepers step up and enforce the laws. In short, Riverkeepers do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of our water supply.

We also have two managers. The Upper Potomac River Manager protects water quality in the upper reaches of the watershed, which impacts the water quality downstream. The Agricultural Projects Manager works in the Shenandoah Valley, convincing farmers to adopt clean water practices. Our riverkeepers and managers are experts in their fields, and often cited as such by reporters, politicians, and residents alike.

We operate field offices in Rockville, MD, Boyce, VA and Bunker Hill, WV, and are headquartered in Washington, DC. Our DC office has four full-time staff members supporting the work of our Riverkeepers and managers.Potomac Riverkeeper Staff
