www.potomacriverkeeper.org Emmy Award Winner Hedrick Smith Speaks at The George Washington University Filmmaker Also Takes Questions the Night His Film“Poisoned Waters” Premiers on PBS's Frontline
Washington, DC—On Tuesday, April 21, Potomac Riverkeeper and The George Washington University will announce their plans for the Potomac River Watershed. Emmy Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Hedrick Smith will kick things off with a discussion of his latest film: “Poisoned Waters” from 6pm to 8pm at the Elliott School of International Affairs. Hedrick will show segments of the film, discuss its production, and take questions from the audience all before the film premiers on PBS's Frontline at 9pm. Ed Merrifield, the Potomac Riverkeeper, says having Hedrick at the discussion is a great way to announce a brand new coalition. “The film does a great service to the Potomac River” Ed added. “It helps all of us understand the need to have healthier rivers and streams and safe drinking water.” “Poisoned Waters” examines the growing hazards of water pollution. Through interviews with scientists, environmental activists, corporate executives and average citizens impacted by the burgeoning pollution problem, Hedrick reveals startling new evidence that today’s growing environmental threat comes not from the giant industrial polluters of old, but from chemicals in consumers’ face creams, deodorants, prescription medicines and household cleaners that find their way into sewers, storm drains, and eventually into America’s waterways and drinking water. Hedrick is a Pulitzer Prize-winning former New York Times reporter/editor and an Emmy Award-winning producer/correspondent. He is one of America's most distinguished journalists. Hedrick has covered Washington and world capitals for The New York Times, authored several best-selling books and created 20 award-winning PBS prime time specials and miniseries on Washington's power game, Soviet perestroika, the global economy, education reform, health care, teen violence, terrorism and Wall Street.
