Get the DIRT Out

Get the DIRT OutOur Get the Dirt Out Program addresses one of the biggest threats to our rivers and streams: dirt and mud running off construction sites.

When it rains, dirt, oil, and other pollutants from construction sites rush into our sewers and often times end up in our water supply. The best way to stop the problem is to make sure site operators are following the law and keeping pollution out of our sewer system in the first place.

If you see dirt and mud coming off a construction site, here are some tips and resources so you can take action.

Print our Fields Guides to learn what to look for: Maryland Field Guide, Virginia Field Guide, Pennsylvania Field Guide.

You should take photos if at all possible and include signs that can identify the property and the construction company.

One word of caution: If you do inspect a construction site, DO NOT TRESSPASS. Stay on public right of ways.

REPORT POLLUTION HERE!

You can also report to local agencies. Click here for a list.
