Potomac Riverkeeper - What We Do Main Page
Out on the Water
P
ut simply: Potomac Riverkeeper stops polluters. We do this because the health and safety of our drinking water depends on the health of our rivers and streams. There are nearly 5 million people living in the Potomac River watershed, and most of them depend on the Potomac River for drinking water. Additionally, the Potomac River provides scenic trails for hikers, bountiful fish for anglers, and exhilarating rapids for paddlers. Our success in stopping polluters depends on how we use two very powerful tools: community action and enforcement. Our community action programs include volunteer trainings like our Get the DIRT Out program, that teach local residents how to take action and improve their local river or stream. Our enforcement actions include "pollution sweeps" to determine who is polluting the Potomac and how they can be stopped. You can click on different programs in the menu to the right to learn more about how Potomac Riverkeeper is protecting and restoring our rivers and streams. |
