Potomac Riverkeeper hosted our Annual Potomac River Gala on June 10th at the House of Sweden. On a gorgeous sunny Sunday we celebrated the Potomac River and our successes in stopping pollution and restoring clean water to our rivers and streams. This year our gala gave a special salute to the 40th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act with special activities highlighting the 3 pillars of the CWA: drinking, fishing and swimming.

We were thrilled to honor Alexandra Cousteau of Blue Legacy with our Protector the Potomac Award. She sent a special video message announcing she'll be our newest Board member. Gala guests also enjoyed her short film, Our Nation's River: A System on the Edge, featuring Potomac Riverkeeper Ed Merrifield.

Ed Merrifield honored Woody Woodrich, a long-time Riverwatcher, with the Volunteer of the Year Award. Jeff Kelble also honored Henry Staudinger with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work to protect human health and our rivers from sewage sludge.
