Day 05 - Getting a Tideful

Remember when I said that Whit and Joe’s newly improved model to paddle with the tide was proving to be a big success? Well, it’s effective in theory, but when it’s not practiced that’s another story.

Whit and Joe missed the tide this morning and were left fighting the tide for the rest of the day. Like Whit told me, “It’s like being a hamster on a wheel.” Yikes. View towards St. Mary’s from the cliffs of Westmoreland State Park

Despite the struggle, they were greeted by breathtaking views as they landed onto Westmoreland State Park. The campground is on these really high cliffs and the river looks beautiful from them (see photo) - a treat that made Day 5’s paddle worth it. On top of that, the park manager was more than accommodating and supported the Island to Island initiative with abundant praise! We hope to work with him in the near future.

Today’s storms hit them pretty hard after setting up camp, but let’s hope they have a dry night of sleep.
